History: This congregation dates back to 1906, when they were First Church of God. After their founding, they met at various locations including store buildings, the home of Mrs. Ellen Smith, and in 1919, they bought a building at 1325 North 10th Street from its original congregation, St. John's Primitive Methodist Church. Through the kindness of Mr. and Mrs. Solomon Boscov, the congregation was able to acquire the title to the current church site on Hampden Blvd, and their building was dedicated in 1963. Around 2012, the congregation, under the changed name Mountain View Fellowship Church of God, merged with Ebenezer Iglesia de Dios. They combined their two names to become Ebenezer Mountain View Church of God. They are part of the Church of God, Anderson, IN. The church’s leaders were told by some that the merger would not work out due to cultural differences, but board member Jill Robertson mentions how they have been blessed that they all get along under Pastor Marcos Angeles.
Congregation/space: This large building contains a spacious sanctuary with a wide narthex space. The section of wall behind the altar is made of stone and bordered by wood. It makes for a lovely background to accentuate the ornately-crafted metal cross that hangs, formed by various names of Jesus in scripts. The building also has a social hall, kitchen, offices, and 8 classrooms.
Programs: Ebenezer Mountain View shares their building with Bethany Christian Services, who utilizes their classrooms for students. The congregation has two services, one in English and one in Spanish. They have youth groups and camps, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, prayer groups, monetary campaigns to support the Dominican Republic, and plan to get more involved with the city’s youth through their “Rise Up” program.
