1116 Perry Street

History: Moravians, or Unity of Brethren, date back to 1415, and are considered the first Protestants; they actually predate Martin Luther by 100 years. Reading Moravian Church was officially founded in 1914 and started with individuals from locations like Bethlehem and Lititz. They first would meet at homes and inside other churches until they built their church on Perry Street in 1920. They are the first and only Moravian church in the city. Unfortunately the congregation has disbanded and closed their doors in 2022.
Congregation/Space: This building has one main sanctuary space and a fellowship hall. The sanctuary space features several stained glass windows on 3 of its four walls, including an intricate piece depicting Jesus; all of these original pieces are in great condition. The building overall is in excellent condition, and is equipped with a new AC unit. All spaces are handicap accessible and there is even a stair lift to make the sanctuary space accessible to all visitors.
